Deben Bakery which is a proudly funded project by Gamagara Development Forum (GDF) started operating in June 2013. A few members of the community of Deben saw a need for a bakery in their community as they sometimes had to wait longer for bread to be delivered at different shops or they would have to travel to Kathu to buy bread, so they wanted to bring products and needs closer to the community, ensure job opportunities for local residence and to also ensure that people are empowered with the required skills and training. The bakery is situated in front of Deben Primary School, next to the Hostels.

The Deben Bakery is a project which is formed to serve the community of Deben and surrounding communities.  The focus area of the bakery is poverty alleviation, entrepreneurial development and job creation. This project will also give local community an opportunity to gain experience and to have an income. This is a bread baking and selling type of business. Deben hah a high demand for bread with many of the families being working class so bread is the type of food that most people are depended on especially scholars.
